A letter to parents and carers

Dear parents/carers

We hope week 1 of school closure has gone OK and that you are all well.

A few points to note:

1) This is not home schooling. This is an unprecedented emergency situation impacting the whole world. At best this is distance learning but really it’s us all trying our best as none of us know what’s right and wrong here.

2) You are, and always have been, your child’s main educator. If you decide that your child will not enjoy an activity that has been sent home and is going to spend the entire time playing in the dirt, that is your choice. There is nothing to stress or feel guilty about

3) Schools don’t know what they are doing either. We got no notice and no preparation time. We are winging it too!

4) It is absolutely not possible to home school whilst working from home at the same time. The very idea is nonsense. If you are trying to do that, stop now. You can have activities where your child learns, but your focus is your job and survival. Stop trying to be superheroes!

The Google classrooms will continue to run and if you feel that your child is able to access these and do them then that is fine – they are not compulsory. There will be no work set or marked on Google classroom over the Easter holiday. Please tell your children, that if they have been accessing it, they must have 2 weeks off!!!

Remember: Every child is in the same boat. They will not fall behind others. If you want your child to bake, play with Lego and play in the garden – go for it! All of this is learning. Very valuable learning. You are doing enough! You are loving your kids and supporting them through this difficult time.

Look after yourself. Minimising stress is absolutely vital in a time like this for mental health. Your children are going to remember this time for the rest of their lives. Don’t let this be something that stresses you or them. Only you can control that by accepting it is in your circle of control. You are the primary educator and this is your call.

If you need our help with anything during our school closure, please do get in touch through admin.eas@ebor.academy. I am pleased to report that all of our staff are well and staying safe, so are available if there are any concerns.

Please take care and stay safe.
