Anti-Bullying Week – 16th – 20th November

The theme for this years’ Anti-Bullying Week was ‘United Against Bullying’, and hundreds of schools around the country held events to highlight this very important issue.

At Easington, we are extremely lucky to have such a friendly and welcoming school community. We all work together to look after one another.

During our Anti-Bullying Week, Easington pupils took part in various activities, played games and held discussions amongst themselves. We discovered that there are many different forms of bullying, some of which might not seem obvious at first glance. We all now have a better understanding of exactly what bullying is, how we can protect ourselves from bullying, and how to help our friends if they are being bullied.

Join us in our Run Around the World

Our school is joining with all 24 schools across Ebor Academy Trust in a challenge to Run Around the World!

If all of the 6,000 pupils, plus 500 others – your family or staff – take part and run, walk, cycle or wheel 200 metres per day during each day in May, we will collectively have travelled over 40,000km. And that’s the distance right around the planet.

There are many physical and mental benefits of being active and keeping fit. Regular exercise combats stress and helps you sleep at night.

You or your child don’t have to take part in our Run Around the World if you don’t want to, but we believe it will be an enjoyable distraction in these unsettling times. Bear in mind, instead of 200 metres a day you could always do 1,400 metres in one go a week – or even more, if you are able to.

Adding your distances travelled every day using the online form, means we can track our progress on a map to see how we’re doing.

We have a sponsorship page (www.justgiving.com/fundraising/eborworldrun), for those parents/carers who are able to donate. All donations will go to charities that support the NHS. We appreciate these are financially difficult times, however, and there is no expectation for you to contribute. Our key objective is to stay active to feel better.

Poetic Spurn – Rewilding our Writing

Our pupils recently had the opportunity to work with local poet, Aly Stoneman, who came into school and helped the children create their own poems and pieces of writing inspired by nature and the local environment.

A number of pupils later attended an after school event at the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre at Spurn Point, where they enjoyed an evening of poetry and cake! They were also able to showcase their own fantastic pieces of work.

Ally has since created some videos of the work, along with a blog (accessible via the link at the bottom of this page).

POETIC SPURN: A Celebration

Poetic Spurn Event

On 20th November a group of Easington children represented the school in a poetry event held at the Spurn Discovery Centre. The children had written their own poetry and got the chance to perform in front of other local poets and visitors to the event. All of the children behaved and performed brilliantly ; there were some very proud adults watching in awe at the confidence they displayed. The school would like to thank Aly Stoneman and the Spurn Heritage Team for offering their time and skills in this very successful project. Let’s hope there is more to come!
