During the 31 days of May we walked, ran, cycled or wheeled over 44,000km, which allowed us to ‘travel’ across our planet. All the details of our journey will shortly be on the Ebor Academy Trust website. One day, perhaps, some of the impressionable young minds who took part in their loops and circuits around their homes, might get to do this for real…

The object of the exercise was to keep fit physically and mentally during the anxieties of the coronavirus covid-19 lockdown. We set up a JustGiving page just in case anyone wanted to sponsor us. Knowing the lockdown made money very tight for some of our families, donating to NHS charities was always just an option and never compulsory.

But thanks to some generous human spirit and in particular the determined efforts of five-year-old Annie from Sigglesthorne Church of England Primary Academy, one of our smaller schools, our target of £750 has been broken and is currently nudging £4,000 at the end of the challenge! We’re keeping the JustGiving page open as we’re about to inform the media and so more donations might come in.

But thanks everyone – you were amazing! Available to download is a certificate of participation you can keep as a souvenir. Certificate to download.

Dear Parent/Carer

More details on the government’s conditional and phased return to school from Monday 1 June have now been released. We are working closely with the government, local authorities and public health experts to plan a way forward for our schools to open with the top priority being maximum safety for both staff and pupils.

Whereas going into lockdown was relatively straightforward, the gradual return to school will be a significant challenge. We will need to work out how to implement a phased return with fewer numbers and appropriate distancing, possibly also staggering start and end times.

We are conscious that currently, parents and carers are very concerned and some are saying they do not want their children to go back to school in June. We understand those concerns and we will bear them in mind throughout all our planning.

Once the situation becomes more clear we will be in touch again.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Gail Brown
Chief Executive and Executive Headteacher

12th May 2020
